Critical velocity in resonantly driven polariton superfluids

نویسندگان

چکیده

We study the necessary condition under which a resonantly driven exciton polariton superfluid flowing against an obstacle can generate turbulence. The value of critical velocity is well estimated by transition from elliptic to hyperbolic operator following ideas developed Frisch, Pomeau, Rica for flow around obstacle, though nature equations governing quite different. find analytical estimates depending on pump amplitude and energy detuning, consistent with our numerical computations.

Probing the dynamics of spontaneous quantum vortices in polariton superfluids.

The experimental investigation of spontaneously created vortices is of utmost importance for the understanding of quantum phase transitions towards a superfluid phase, especially for two-dimensional systems that are expected to be governed by the Berezinski-Kosterlitz-Thouless physics. By means of time-resolved near-field interferometry we track the path of such vortices, created at random loca...

Spontaneous and triggered vortices in polariton optical-parametric-oscillator superfluids.

We study nonequilibrium polariton superfluids in the optical-parametric-oscillator regime by using a Gross-Pitaevskii equation with pumping and decay. We identify a regime above the optical-parametric-oscillator threshold, where the system undergoes spontaneous symmetry breaking and is unstable towards vortex formation without any rotating drive. Stable vortex solutions differ from metastable o...

Vortex Chain in a Resonantly Pumped Polariton Superfluid

Exciton-polaritons are light-matter mixed states interacting via their exciton fraction. They can be excited, manipulated, and detected using all the versatile techniques of modern optics. An exciton-polariton gas is therefore a unique platform to study out-of-equilibrium interacting quantum fluids. In this work, we report the formation of a ring-shaped array of same sign vortices after injecti...

Resonantly tunable Majorana polariton in a microwave cavity.

We study the spectrum of a one-dimensional Kitaev chain placed in a microwave cavity. In the off-resonant regime, the frequency shift of the cavity can be used to identify the topological phase transition of the coupled system. In the resonant regime, the topology of the system is sensitive to the presence of photons in the microwave cavity and, moreover, for a large number of photons (classica...

12 Decoherence in Resonantly Driven Bistable Systems

A main obstacle for the experimental realization of a quantum computer is the unavoidable coupling of the qubits to external degrees of freedom and the decoherence caused in that way. A possible solution of this problem are error correcting codes. These, however, require redundant coding and, thus, a considerably higher algorithmic effort. Yet another route to minimize decoherence is provided b...
